The Architecture of Asian Christianity

Two weeks ago, when my wife and I travelled down to my mom’s home town (Seosan, Choongchun-Namdo, South Korea) for my uncle’s funeral, we came across this interesting building. Upon closer examiniation, we discovered that it is a Catholic church, but I was just in awe of the Asian flavor that the cathedral had.
Living in Montreal, Quebec for [...]

A Korean Funeral

This past week, my uncle passed away from cancer so I had the opportunity to experience a full-fledged Buddhist Korean funeral. When I got to the hospital, I had to pay my respects to his son and his mother and then we were ushered into this room where the dead body was (it was covered with [...]

Sociology of the Homeless in Seoul, Korea

There are approximately 1 million homeless individuals in Seoul, and 300 at Seoul Station, which is a major landmark in Seoul.  That’s very intriguing because the population of greater Seoul is 24.5 million people.  That means 1 in every 25 people is homeless in Seoul.
We had an outreach to the homeless in Seoul a few [...]

Green McDonald’s and Missional Living

Reserved parking spaces for hybrid cars, tables and chairs made from recycled milk and detergent containers, and vegetative green roofs – these are a few of the 20 features that McDonald’s has conjured up to attract the eco-concious population (see Korea Times Article).

Sex Trafficking

“The CIA estimates that between 50 000 and 100 000 girls, boys and women are trafficked annually into the United States to be pimped out or sold for forced sex.  Worldwide more than 1 million people are trafficked across international borders against their will.”
“We are not finding victims in the United States because we’re not [...]

conversation with a Korean taxi driver

Sitting in an airport just outside of Seoul, South Korea, I can’t help but reflect on the conversation I just had with the cab driver who drove me to the airport.
I was initially going to take the bus to the airport, but as I was waiting, a taxi driver approached me and asked if I [...]

Remorse after murder…

“I have to stay on this bus forever.”
and
“Please kill me.”
These are the two statements coming out of the mouth of Vince Weiguang Li, the man who murdered Tim McLean on a Greyhound bus last week.
Since his arrest he has yet to speak to his court-appointed attorney and the prosecutors.
Here is a bit more information about [...]

bus murder…where was God?

I just read the story about the horrific bus murder that occured on a Greyhound bus traveling from Winnipeg to Edmonton.
My heart is wrenching and at unrest.
I cannot simply process or begin to comprehend how someone could just stab, murder, decapitate, and carve up another human being, who he “seemingly” didn’t know.

stanley cup baptism

Upon winning the Stanley Cup, Detroit Red Wings’ Tomas Holmstrom decided to let his cousin use the Stanley Cup as a baptismal font to baptize his 7 week old daughter. Now that’s probably never been done before.
Growing up in a Korean Presbyterian Church, I was baptized as a child, and I was confirmed as [...]

blessings from God

I just read an awesome and insightful entry by Pete Wilson, which you can check out here.
The following are my thoughts on a similar topic:
We are blessed. Having the technology, time, and money to access the internet and view this post means that you are blessed. I probably don’t even have to convince [...]
